Squadron Section Drill

 

Conditions: A section shall consist of six (6) members including not more than one (1) Corporal and a maximum of three (3) Leading Cadets. The Corporal shall be the N.C.O. in charge. Points will not be deducted for lack of N.C.O.’s. However, if N.C.O.’s do participate they must assume their normal positions.
Sergeants WILL NOT take part in Section Drill competitions.

Members of a section shall comply with the provisions of Section 18 of the Australian Air League Manual with regard to uniform. Separate male and female competitions shall be conducted for Section Drill.

 

Procedure: N.C.O. in charge shall position the unit in a straight line as required in the ‘Fall In’ procedure as detailed in the AAL Manual. The N.C.O. in charge will then report to the Uniform Judge, giving the name of the Squadron. On completion of the judging they will report back to the Uniform Judge. On the Judge’s
instruction to proceed they will report to the Static Judge. N.C.O.-in-charge will then report to the Static Judge, giving the name of the Squadron and fall-in the unit as per the fall-in procedure.

On completion of the fall-in, the N.C.O.-in-charge will again report to the Static Judge, and on the Judge’s instruction, proceed to march the unit to the position indicated on the appropriate diagram for field judging. N.C.O.-in-charge will report to the Field Judge, giving the name of the Squadron, then move to the centre of the competition area and give the necessary commands for the field competition movements.

On completion of the field competitionmovements, N.C.O.-in-charge will again report to the Field Judge, and after being dismissed will march the Section off the competition area.

 

Note: N.C.O.-in-charge should stand in the centre of the competition area for field judging, but may move closer to the Section if necessary for commands to be heard.

 

Movements: The movements to be performed for Section Drill are as follows and are in accordance with Diagram No.6 of Section 12 of the Australian Air League manual.

E. Eyes Left
F. Eyes Front
G. Left Wheel

Junior Section Drill

 

Conditions: All members competing in Junior Section Drill shall be junior cadets in accordance with the Australian Air League Manual. Except as herein provided, all other conditions, procedures and movements shall be in accordance with Squadron Section Drill.

 

 

Wing Section Drill:

 

Purpose: Wing Section Drill competitions are conducted for Squadrons within a Wing to combine to compete as a Wing Section because those Squadrons have insufficient members to form and compete as a unit in their own right in Squadron or Junior Section Drill competitions.

 

Conditions: Wing Section Drill must consist of members from Squadrons within the same Wing and must consist of members from at least two (2) Squadrons from within that Wing. Wing Section Drill is open to junior and / or cadet age groups.However, any Squadron which competes in their own right in either the Junior Section Drill or Squadron Section Drill competitions are ineligible to compete in the Wing Section Drill competition. Except as herein provided, all other conditions, procedures and movements shall be in accordance with Squadron Section Drill.

 

Officer Section Drill

 

Conditions: This competition is conducted on a Group basis only. Each Group may enter a Section consisting of six (6) Officers. Members of the Officer Section may be Warrant Officers, Trainee Officers or Officers of any rank or appointment. The Officer in Charge shall be equal or senior in rank to any other member of the
Section. As separate male and female competitions shall be conducted, composite Groups wishing to compete shall enter a separate male and female Officer Section for this competition. Except as herein provided, all conditions, procedures and movements shall be in accordance with Squadron Section Drill.
