Beat the Buzzer Competition

This competition will be held on Saturday 30 September 2006 following the AAL Review at the Canberra Lakes Carotel, Federal Highway, Watson, ACT. (www.carotel.com.au)

The competitions are scheduled to commence at 2000 hrs and conclude by 2200 hrs. All members, parents and friends are encouraged to attend. The venue shall be open from 1930 hrs to enable members and guests to be present and seated at the time of commencement.

Each Group is invited to nominate a team of girls and a team of boys as appropriate to take part in this competition. Each team will consist of one (1) Junior Cadet; one (1) Cadet and one (1) Senior Cadet. There will be separate boys’ and girls’ competitions conducted.

Each age group shall compete in turn against the other members of the same age group. Questions will be based on a combination of subject matter contained in the Australian Air League education workbooks, other publications available to cadet members and general knowledge. It will be presumed that senior members have greater knowledge than Cadet members, and Cadet members have greater knowledge than Junior members, and the difficulty of the questions presented to the different age groups will reflect this.

Age groups for the purpose of this competition shall be:
- Junior : 8 to 11 years inclusive
- Cadet : 12 to 14 years inclusive
- Senior : 15 to 17 years inclusive

Age of the members in each team will be as at the date of the Beat the Buzzer Competitions.

Competition Rules:
1. An adjudicator will be appointed who will be the final arbitrator during the competition in relation to whether a question stands or the acceptability of an answer. Latitude will be towards the competitor.

2. If a question is determined to be null and void another will be provided in its place.

3. Following completion of reading a question 10 seconds will be allowed for a competitor’s response. Where no response is provided then no points will be awarded and the Quiz Master will continue on to the next question.

4. Where a competitor activates the buzzer / bell before the Quiz Master finishes reading the question the Quiz Master will stop immediately. If the competitor answers the question incorrectly the Quiz Master will continue on to the next question.

5. A competitor must not answer a question until asked to do so. Where this occurs and the answer is incorrect the Quiz Master will continue by asking the correct competitor.

6. The Quiz Master is the arbitrator on the acceptability of an answer but may refer an answer to an adjudicator for qualification where considered necessary.

7. A competitor may be disqualified if it is found that they have received assistance from the audience.

8. A competitor who wins the opportunity to answer a question will have 10 seconds in which to commence answering the question.

9. If the competitor gives an incorrect answer the Quiz Master will give the correct answer. The adjudicator may override the judgement of the Quiz Master

10. One point will be awarded for a correct answer. If a competitor does not answer at least one correct question they will not be eligible to proceed to the next round where this is necessary
