Air Activities Competitions


Each Group is invited to nominate members for the Air Activities Cadet of the Year award. The closing date for nominations shall be Saturday 19 August 2006.

 

Purpose: This award is to recognise and reward outstanding individual achievement and contribution to the objectives of the Australian Air League in relation to aviation since the last Australian Air League Review.
The following has been extracted from the AAL Manual, Section 19.

 

Criteria for Award : Applicants for the award can be from Power, Gliding or Ultralight flying sections of the Australian Air League.

Applicants must be under the age of 19 years as at the date that the award is presented. The applicant must be an active member of an AAL Squadron and attend regularly on parade nights, must have been a financial member of the AAL for at least 12 months prior to the date of nomination and must have been a regular participant at AAL activities such as parades, camps, reviews, air shows, etc.

The applicant must be undertaking some form of flying training (theory or practical). The applicant must be a regular participant at an airfield and be willing to assist AAL Air Activities Section staff on Air Activity flying days, camps, education courses, etc.


The applicant must be an enthusiastic member of the Air Activities section who’s enthusiasm is transmitted to all who have contact with them (i.e. must be an ‘Aviation Nut’). Consideration will also be given as to the distance travelled to reach their flying training centre and method of transport used or any hardships that they have overcome to continue their flying training.


The applicant must be an active participant in their Squadron education program and have gained passes in subjects relating to Flight Subjects such as Theory of Flight, Meteorology, Navigation, etc.

 

Nomination Procedure:

The Group Air Activities Commissioner/Officer or Group Executive Commissioner may nominate applicants for the award when requested by the Federal Air Activities Commissioner. A maximum of two (2) applicants from each group is permitted.


All applications for the award must address each of the selection criteria as indicated above.


All applications for the award must be accompanied by a written report from the applicants’ squadron O.C. detailing the applicants’ general behaviour, enthusiasm and attitude during squadron parade nights and other squadron activities. All applications must be submitted in writing to the Federal Air Activities
Commissioner prior to any specified closing date. Applications submitted in facsimile or electronic format are acceptable. It is the responsibility of the Group submitting the application(s) that the details are received clearly by any specified closing date.

 


Selection Process:

A committee as selected by the Chief Commissioner shall consider all applications prior to the Australian Air League Review. The consideration shall be solely on the basis of the application submitted.

The committee shall advise the Chief Commissioner prior to the Australian Air League Review of the winning applicant. The committee may choose to advise joint winners if two applicants are of sufficient quality that a clear winner cannot be established. The committee may decide at their discretion to award an Air Activities Cadet of the Year (Boys) Award and an Air Activities Cadet of the Year (Girls) Award.

The award shall be announced and presented at the Australian Air League Review to the winning applicant(s) during the awards presentation ceremony.

If the committee decides that no applicant is of sufficient quality, then the award shall not be issued at that Australian Air League Review.
